About Wessex Heritage Tours

Throughout your tour you will have an experienced driver/guide with an expert knowledge of the landscape, history and legends of Wessex. They will ensure all your travel, accommodation and event reservations run smoothly. Alongside them, an administration team provide backup and support.

Getting to Wessex

Wessex Heritage Tours are based in Somerset in the South of England, an area well served by main line rail stations at Bristol, Bath, and Yeovil. You can be in the heart of Wessex by train from London within a couple of hours. Bristol International Airport, with daily flights to New York and Europe, is about an hour's drive away. We will be happy to arrange, or advise you on, your travel to Wessex from any airport, rail station or location in the UK, and your return journey home.

Prices

Costs vary according to the tours you choose, the type of accommodation (if chosen) and the size of your group. Visitors travel with us in very small groups - even down to one single traveller, but usually 2 to 6 people. However, we can also arrange tours for larger groups on request.

Once we have received your enquiry we will send you a fully detailed itinerary with precise costs.

Guides

You will be looked after by a Wessex family during your stay. They will be your guides and companions throughout, using their expert knowledge of the landscape, history and literature of Wessex. They will ensure all your travel, accommodation and event reservations run smoothly. Alongside them, a team of helpers provide backup and support.

If you have requested any specialist tours, we will also provide the personal attention of an expert in that particular field of interest.

Transport

We'll arrange all your transport needs for this part of your holiday from the day you arrive in England, or whenever you want your Wessex Heritage Tour to start.

Usually transport is in luxury MPVs (multi-person vehicles - for up to six visitors) - a roomy, comfortable solution for enjoyable travelling along main roads and small country lanes.

If you like, we'll be pleased to organise other travel arrangements if you're planning trips further afield in the United Kingdom. For example, from Wessex you might want to travel to York, or Edinburgh, and we can ensure that you're set safely on your way there.

Airport Transfers

Driving in England can be an interesting experience for those unused to our 'roundabouts', narrow roads and even narrower countryside lanes. Most bizarrely of course, we will insist that you drive on the 'wrong' side of the road.

However, if you would rather spend your vacation relaxed and without the hassle of booking and driving a rental car (which you may also find rather small) we can arrange your collection and return to any airport, rail station or port throughout the UK. All you have to do is arrive, relax and we'll do the rest.

If you are travelling on to other parts of the UK, we'll be happy to put you in touch with our network of independent tour operators.

Email your flight, rail or, cruise arrival & departure details and we'll quote you for a door-to-door transfer.

Accessible Tours & Adapted Vehicles for Wheelchair Users

Our accessible tours allow wheelchair travellers, as well as their family and friends, to visit, discover and enjoy this unique and fascinating part of England.

The tours for wheelchair users and their fellow travellers use a range of specially converted vehicles, the largest of which can accommodate one wheelchair passenger plus four other passengers, including the driver/guide.

If you or someone in your tour group requires the use of a wheelchair adapted vehicle, please forward the following dimensions of the wheelchair and as much information as possible about your requirements:

  • Overall height
  • Overall length
  • Width across arm rests
  • Width across rear wheels
